🌿Red Clover, Red Clover, Red Clover🌿
One of our favorite cooling lymphatics for these hot days! Try it as an iced infusion with some hibiscus, spearmint and a pinch of cornflowers. This blend will keep you cool and hydrated on a warm day.
We buy direct from farmers where we can and you can see why!
What do you like to pair red clover with?

Don’t underestimate garlic!

Garlic is a powerful antimicrobial that supports our respiratory and immune health. To receive the benefits, garlic should be crushed and used raw. Many folks have trouble ingesting raw garlic (it can be hard on the tummy!), so here is a traditional oxymel recipe using common ingredients found in the kitchen!

Apple Cider Vinegar, Honey, Garlic and Rosehips. (Substitute any kitchen spice for the rosehips).

Directions:
Crush each clove from an entire bulb of garlic with the side of your knife. Then chop into small pieces. Let sit while you move onto the next step.
Add 2 Tbls. rosehips to a saucepan along with 12 ounces of apple cider vinegar. (Rosehips are high in Vitamin C, but you can substitute any kitchen spice for the rosehips. Thyme, Rosemary, and Oregano also support immune health).
Bring to a boil and turn down to a slow simmer, covered for 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and add crushed and chopped garlic.
Let sit for an hour or so to cool.
Line a strainer with cheesecloth (or a cloth napkin) and place over a bowl. Strain the liquid well, squeezing the cloth to get every last bit of goodness. Discard the solids.
Add equal parts of honey to the garlicy vinegar and store in a glass bottle with a non-metalic lid.

Take 2 tablespoons daily, or a scant shotglass. You can also add this to salad dressings and marinades.

We love adding rose hips to our tea blends! Rich in vitamin C, not only are they delicious and nutritious additions to tea, they can be harvested for jelly, jams, liqueurs, and syrups. Every herbalist has an inner clock that tells them when it’s time to harvest; some wait till after the first frost, maybe two, some try to get out before the red-winged blackbirds get them all, some monitor the pop of color as an indicator of sweetness. One thing we can agree on is that harvesting rose hips is a labor of love; rose branches are thorny and the rose hips have little hairs on them that can be itchy. Good thing we have dried rosehips in bulk and the best tea blends in town!

Red Raspberry Leaf Harvest Happening Now!

Scientifically referred to as Rubus idaeus, this perennial caning fruit of the rose family is very familiar to most of us: red, luscious, fragrant berries that taste great out of hand, or as a sauce, ice cream or smoothie. Plus they are high in antioxidants — substances that help us stay healthy. When they are in season, I try to pick as many as I can and freeze them for year round eating.

BUT don't forget, the LEAVES make a very nutritious infusion (long steeped tea), full of minerals (calcium, magnesium, iron) and considered one of the best uterine tonics.
Red raspberry leaves are best harvested from first year canes (primocanes) and then thoroughly dried before making into a tea.

Right now is a great time to do this.
The drying of the leaves and the long steeping help to draw the minerals and other constituents out of the raspberry leaf, making for an excellent, nourishing tonic.
