PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST MEASLES:
Measles cases are on the rise and the 21st Medical Group is urging families to protect themselves against measles by ensuring family members have received the MMR vaccination. The best way to protect against measles is with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. MMR is safe and effective and two doses of MMR vaccine are about 97% effective at preventing measles; one dose is about 93% effective. The vaccine can be administered to anyone 6 months and older, and is available through your primary care provider or at many community retail pharmacies.

If you think you have been exposed to measles or have symptoms that look like measles (details at link below), please call the nurse advice line at 719-524-2273, option 3, prior to visiting an Emergency Room or other healthcare facility. Measles is a highly-contagious disease and primary care providers and emergency rooms need advance notice to prepare safe treatment areas and prevent the spread of this serious disease. As always, if you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room.

For more information about measles visit: https://www.cdc.gov/measles/about/index.html

With multiple cases of measles in Colorado, it’s a good time to learn how you can protect yourself and your loved ones. For information about measles, visit

TriWest Referrals Update:

Effective immediately, Military Medical Treatment Facilities (MTFs) in Colorado (to include Peterson & Schreiver Clinics) are returning to normal referral processing for network specialty care referrals outside the MTF.

New referrals will be routed through TriWest, our managed care support contractor, and will be available in the TriWest Patient Portal at: https://tricare-bene.triwest.com/signin.

Referrals for patients who previously received referrals for specialty care directly from their primary care providers will cover scheduled appointments through June 30, 2025, but all new referrals will use the process described above.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME AS A PATIENT?

• Effective April 7, 2025, all referrals placed within Colorado Military Health System MTFs by a primary care manager (PCM) or specialty provider that require civilian network specialty provider care will be sent to TriWest for approval.
• A referral letter and DHA Referral Waiver Letter will no longer be sent directly to patients via MHS Genesis Patient Portal Secure Messaging.
• TriWest authorization letters will be found in the TriWest Patient Portal (If you have not yet set up your TriWest Patient Portal/Account, please do so via this link: https://tricare-bene.triwest.com/signin).

AM I STILL COVERED BY THE DHA REFERRAL WAIVER?

• For specialty care approved prior to Apr. 7, 2025, patients are still covered under the DHA Referral Waiver, and will cover scheduled appointments until June 30, 2025.
• Referrals from military or civilian PCM or other TRICARE-authorized providers do not require approval from TriWest during the waiver period, and any referral received prior to April 7, 2025, will cover scheduled appointments until June 30, 2025.
• Beginning April 7, 2025, all referrals placed within the CMHS MTFs by a PCM or specialty provider that require civilian network specialty provider care will be sent to TriWest for processing. Your referral can be retrieved from your TriWest Patient Portal.
• Once your authorization populates in your TriWest Patient Portal, the patient is responsible for scheduling a civilian network specialty care appointment (Instructions and details are provided in referral).

WHO SHOULD I CONTACT IF I HAVE PROBLEMS RECEIVING A REFERRAL?

• Please contact the Peterson & Schriever Space Force Base Referral Management Office at: 719-524-1003/1021.
• You can also contact the Referral management Team through the MHS Genesis Secure Messaging at: "MHSG Message Pool: USAF Peterson Referral Management"
