We have gotten a lot of questions recently and wanted to have the opportunity to offer some clarity and reassurances to our families.
When you come in to see us for a visit, please know that the things we discuss, the diagnoses we make, and the treatment options that are reviewed with you becomes part of your child’s medical record and that medical information is secure and NOT shared with secondary parties without your direct consent. Secondary parties include specialists that we are referring to for further evaluation, transfer of care to your new primary physician if you’ve moved from our office, coordination of care with your child’s other providers, or in the rare and serious situation where Child Protective Services is involved and we must provide documentation of the health of at risk children as part of investigations. Certain infectious diseases automatically get reported by laboratories to state health departments as a way to track and manage outbreaks in the community in an effort to maintain public health (e.g. measles, Hib, etc). All of this is to say, that your medical information is NOT shared by us in ANY way with ANY federal government institution. This will NOT change. We will continue to provide the utmost level of care to all of our patients and ALWAYS protect their medical information, regardless of what you may hear on the national news.
We will continue to practice evidence-based medicine and diagnose, treat, and offer all appropriate services to your child. We will continue to require immunizations for you to be part of our practice, as we know them to be safe and an extremely effective means of keeping your child healthy. We have decades of trusted research to support this recommendation. The science hasn’t changed. We haven’t changed. Rest assured, our job has ALWAYS been to protect the health and well-being of our patients and our community no matter the circumstances, and that will NEVER change.
