Please consider the Northmen Dens for food or monetary donations if you have the resources, which directly helps children in our local school districts who have been severely impacted by the Northern Michigan ice storm.

While there are several very worthy charities in Emmet County helping people this one is certainly worth highlighting where your dollars or food donations go directly to children in our school districts who are experiencing hardship due to the effects of the ice storm. The office is located directly above Tap 30 in Petoskey.

The children we serve did not have a chance to pick up food for spring break due to a snowstorm. And then the ice storm was another scary thing to live through, and most are still living it. I received the following email on Friday from Chris Schlappi, Pellston's MS & HS Principal:

"Good evening, Kathy,
With so many still without power, I would like to open our pantry an extra day this week. Kathy, will there be any issues opening Monday in addition to Friday this week?
Thank you, Chris Schlappi"

We have notified all our school principals that, YES, our pantries will be open as long as we have volunteers to staff them.

Chris responded with this heartwarming reason we serve:
“The Northmen Den continues to provide a critical service to our students and community at large. Our students have come to rely on the Hornet's Nest pantry as a weekly source of food and other materials to take home to their families. We are so grateful for this service and can’t imagine operating without it.”
