What began in in 1973 as Half-Way Home, Inc., the organization was the brainchild of a group of local citizens, whose vision entailed setting up a half-way house for adult men, needing safe and supportive housing after completing treatment. When its doors were opened in the spring of 1974, Half-Way Home, Inc. operated from the benevolence of the community and relied heavily upon donated goods and volunteer labor to outfit, maintain and support its mission.
From its humble beginnings, services began expanding and in a short amount of time it became more than a half-way house. Under the direction of several different directors, services increased, community involvement increased, staff increased and Half Way Home Inc. expanded the treatment facility with a varied range of services. In 1984 the name was changed from Half Way Home Inc. to Harbor Hall Inc. reflecting it’s residential treatment status. Since then, Harbor Hall has had many accolades and honors for the services provided. Treatment programs offered include withdrawal management, residential and transitional living for men, as well as an array of outpatient services for men, women and teens.
Harbor Hall is an active member of the Hazelden Betty Ford Patient Care Network, a clinical collaboration of quality health care organizations that share a philosophy about the best evidence-based treatment for substance abuse, as well as a commitment to improving patient outcomes.
