For well over 100 years community members have joined together to provide health care for our region. Here’s an abbreviated glance back at where we came from and how far we’ve come thanks to the legacies of giving in our community.
-1882 Petoskey has seven doctors and 40,000 tourists visit Petoskey Hotels
-1899 William Lockwood gives Oriental Hotel to the city to serve as the first hospital and Petoskey’s first female physician arrives, Margaret Kellogg.
-1902 All new Lockwood Hospital opens at corner of Elm and Lindell
-1909 Petoskey Hospital is formed on Arlington Street by Drs. John and George Reycraft
-1931 Burns Clinic founded
--1939 Little Traverse Hospital opens (68 beds) replacing Petoskey Hospital
1956 $175,000 addition for Burns Clinic
-1977 Lockwood and Little Traverse merge to form Northern Michigan Hospital with a 30 million expansion launched
-1999 Burns Clinic Closes
-2004 3.75 million expansion for the ER and Heart & Vascular Center
-2012 Acquired by McLaren Health Care
-2017 Major expansion announced
