Wishing each and every one of you a joyous holiday season with your family and friends! I am truly blessed that I can continue to learn from all of you as well as share what I have learned as a physical therapist to help you continue the activities you enjoy doing. As you may know, I am very passionate about learning and I’m happy to share that passion with all of you. I consider it a gift that keeps on giving.

Ps. Don’t forget to keep stimulating your nervous system over the holidays with your individual home exercises.

Your nervous system has the power to heal itself given the appropriate stimulus.

Blessings,

Sue Smith PT

FAQ's:

What is a certified functional manual therapist (CFMT)?

A CFMT is a physical therapist that has gone through extensive coursework and training in evaluation and treatment of the body as an integrated system through the Institute of Physical Art as well as an in person practical lab and written examination process that ensures a high level of mastery of the material.

How is Integrative Manual Physical Therapy different than traditional physical therapy?

With an integrated whole body approach to assessment and treatment, you will often get results in a shorter period of time because the source(s) of your symptoms are being addressed vs. only the area of pain. The results often last longer as well due to addressing multiple systems of the body vs. one body part. You will also learn how the body compensates for pain, injuries and surgeries that can cause further limitations in mobility/function and how we can address these compensations.

What is a cash-based physical therapy practice?

It is a practice that has no contracts with insurance companies. It has no relationship with Medicare and therefore, no bills can be submitted to Medicare by the therapist or the patient for reimbursement. Payment is collected at the time of service in the form of cash, check, credit card, HSA, FSA or HRA accounts. This allows the therapist to treat the whole body as a system without the constraint that insurance companies have in regard to a limited number of PT visits for a single body part/diagnosis.

What is nasal release technique?

It is a technique that uses a balloon pump which is inserted into the nasal passages to restore mobility of the cranium and enhance the airway. This can be effective for post concussion symptoms, headaches, sinus issues, nasal obstruction/blockage, previous cranial/facial fractures and TMJ/neck/facial pain. At Integrative Manual Physical Therapy if this technique is part of your treatment plan, it will be integrated with other manual treatments to maximize the result.
