Wise Women Speak
It is so easy to focus on the painful parts of menopause-the hot flashes and sleepless nights, the weight gain all around your middles, the brain fog and word finding problems.
Do you ever charge into a room and then forget why you are there?
Do you lose the car keys or cellphone and then find them in really bizarre places?
Midlife is a trip. And it is an opportunity to release all the old expectations for us, and truly step into our own personal power.
To that point, I’ve been making lots of new connections on LinkedIn and posing this question, “What is one part of midlife that’s been most meaningful to you?”
The responses, from MD’s, Life and Leadership Coaches, CEO’s, Public Speakers and Authors, Personal Trainers and Ministers, was juicy. Here are a few:
“Connecting to my inner wisdom. In my 20’s and 30’s I spent a lot of time people pleasing even when my gut was telling me something different. I’m 47 now and my 40’s has allowed me to care less about what others think, tune into my inner voice and do what is right for me.”
“I take nothing for granted now. Family, friends, ministry, it is all important. My health is something I am now concentrating on due to menopause.”
“I have the ability to align myself with the people and the environments that match my values. And I no longer care about trying to prove myself. I’m fully aware that I am enough. That has done wonders for my confidence and boosted my joy.”
“I've worked a lot on stripping away things in my life that no longer serve me, things, news, social media, people. That makes my life a lot simpler and easier to handle. I also try to put things in perspective and not go down the rabbit hole of doom thinking.”
“The main thing that keeps me centered is my chosen support system (friends and family), as well as the help of an amazing therapist! I'm doing the work that the generation before me refused to do - and that is serving me so well in this transitional time of my life.”
Such beautiful wisdom. I couldn’t have said it better.
Let’s use our life experience, our big hearts and soul wisdom to make midlife and beyond a time of empowerment, as we laugh at the brain holes and endure our own “personal summers”.
