The Serratus Anterior is organized into three distinct segments:

➡️ Upper/Superior:
Originates from the 1st to 2nd rib, extending to the superior angle of the scapula.

➡️ Middle/Intermedius:
Connected from the 2nd to 3rd rib to the medial border of the scapula.

➡️ Lower/Inferior:
Stretches from the 4th to 9th rib, anchoring at the medial border and inferior angle of the scapula, representing its most robust and pronounced section.

🎯 Insertion:
Anterior (costal) surface of the medial border of the scapula.

⚡ Nerve Supply:
Long Thoracic Nerve (C5–C7) – injury to this nerve may result in scapular winging.

💪 Muscle Actions:

✅ Scapular Rotation: Aids in arm abduction and flexion.
✅ Protraction: Moves the scapula forward against the rib cage, ensuring close contact.
✅ Facilitation of Pushing Movements: Key for activities like push-ups and punching.

STABILIZATION:

1. Shoulder Girdle Stability: Maintains shoulder alignment.
2. Rib Cage Stability: Supports rib placement.
Note on Stability: The Serratus Anterior prevents the lateral tilt (winging) of the scapula.

🔧 Trigger Point Release Techniques

🧘 Stretching Methods

1. Place palm & forearm against a wall at shoulder height.

Kneel and extend your arms forward, walking both hands to one side to stretch the opposite-side Serratus Anterior.

- Perform a push-up and at the top, protract your shoulder blades. This is the best isolation exercise for the Serratus Anterior.

2. Wall Slides 🧱⬆️
- Slide your arms up a wall, ensuring shoulder blades stay engaged.

3. Dynamic Hugs 🤗
- While using a resistance band, mimic a hugging motion focusing on scapular protraction.

4. Serratus Punches 🥊
- Either lying down or standing, punch forward with a dumbbell or band, emphasizing controlled scapular movement.
