These are the spinal nerves that branch out from our spine-31 pairs in total: 8 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral, and 1 coccygeal (not "scotch") nerve. Each pair emerges from the spinal cord and serves a specific region of the body.
Their main function is to relay motor commands, sensory input, and autonomic signals between the spinal cord and the rest of the body-enabling movement, sensation, and vital automatic processes like heartbeat and digestion. The human nervous system is truly an evolutionary masterpiece.
