☀️ Summer is the perfect time for some fun in the sand — and it's more than just play! At our pediatric therapy clinic, we love using sand to support fine motor and sensory development in creative, engaging ways. 🏖️
Digging for hidden treasures (like tiny dinosaurs!) helps children build their sense of touch and fine motor control — especially when they search using only their hands. 🦕
Scooping, pouring, and sifting sand with buckets and shovels strengthens hand-eye coordination, while drawing shapes and letters in the sand is a great way to sneak in writing practice. ✍️
Plus, digging and moving sand provides calming, grounding sensory input — known as “heavy work” — which can help many kids with self-regulation and focus. 💪
Sand play is simple, soothing, and full of skill-building potential!
