Last week, Dr. Kate Viola appeared on WJZ CBS Baltimore to share her top tips for keeping your kiddos of all ages safe under the summer sun ☀️ From infants to teens, here’s what she recommends:

👶 Babies (under 6 months)
• Avoid direct sun exposure—tiny skin is ultra-sensitive
• For babies 6 months and older, use a mineral sunscreen (zinc oxide/titanium dioxide) with SPF 30–50. Plus, hats & shade go a long way!

👦 Toddlers (6 months–5 years)
• Let them help apply sunscreen—it builds lifelong healthy habits!
• Use a sunscreen stick—Dr. Viola suggests “four passes” for full protection

👧 Tweens & Teens
• Watch for drying acne products—use moisturizers in the morning and evening (CeraVe, La Roche-Posay) to maintain balance
• For active kids: opt for UV‑spray sunscreens and apply until you “shine.” 🏃‍♀️
• UPF clothing is like SPF 50—Coolibar passes Derm Foundation seal

🐜 Bonus: Cuts, Scrapes & Bug Bites
• Keep DEET-based repellent (off-label for babies 2+ months) on hand—safe and effective
