The lack of mobile crisis funding keeps on leading to cops killing Philadelphians. But instead of increasing funding for mobile crisis, the city is spending money on police and on tax cuts for billionaires! It’s time for city council to put the people before police and the ultra rich and increase mobile crisis funding. Thanks to for your coverage. Attention city council: it's not to late to put the people first (who is always on the people's side (who is always on the people's side) (mental health mobile crisis and the services you chose to ban are different and they are both life saving)

The PPD continues to murder people and harm communities and shirk responsibility. The CPOC is not coming through with holding them accountable. Philadelphians experience mental health emergencies deserve trauma informed, clinician led, compassionate care. They don't deserve to be shot and killed just because they need help. (Image: Photo of Aaron Rainey, the text: Aaron Rainey should be alive.
The Philadelphia Police Department responded to his mental health crisis and shot him to death. NBC10 headline reading: Bodycam of officer who shot, killed man outside Friends Hospital was not activated. Nick Kato is the head of investigations for the
Citizens Police Oversight Commission (CPOC). It’s
a group charged with overseeing the actions
of Philly Police and providing recommendations
to city leaders— including in this case.
“Body-worn camera footage, surveillance, the whole sort of array of evidence that you might see at a scene is made available to us to review,” Kato said.

But he would not share what he viewed— or whether the officers violated policy. “Whether or not that policy was followed would require a misconduct investigation to take place,” he said.

CPOC does not have the authority to conduct such an
investigation. That currently falls to PPD internal affairs.”)

Where is ? Where is the news coverage beyond a few pieces last week? The police responded to a person having a mental health emergency and he ended up murdered and falsely accused of shooting police that was in fact done by the police themselves. This tragedy could have been completely avoided if the response had been by caring mental health workers and not armed police. (Image: purple background with pink. Photo of Aaron Rainey and of a PPD van. text: Aaron Rainey should be alive.
He was loved.
He needed help.
He agreed to treatment.
He was unarmed.
The PPD transported him in a van.
They shot him to death.
They lied and blamed him when the one cop shot his own partner.
Mobile crisis teams don’t have a pattern of, escalation, lying, violence & killing people in need.
The Philadelphia Police do.)

What's the police's story gonna change to next? Aaron Rainey, who was a loved community member, father, son, and helper, had a mental health emergency. Police put him in the back of their van for transport, they shot him to death, then they blamed him when one cope accidentally shot the other cop. This was completely avoidable. needs to do better. (Image: purple background, a photo of Aaron looking at the camera, headlines reading: Philly cop was accidentally shot in his ballistic vert by his partner, police say, not the man police originally blamed; Philadelphia officer shot his partner in the scuffle with patient outside friends hospital police say. Text: Police escalate when people need de-escalation.
Police narratives tend to be false, misleading, and dangerous., while perpetuating stereotypes.
Police should not do mental health transports.
Police responded to Aaron Rainey’s mental health crisis, shot him to death, and then blamed him for their own shooting.
Police should be apologizing to Aaron’s mother. )

These deaths are avoidable. This is a person who needed help, not death by neglect and incarceration. The supply out there today is not what is was years ago and the withdrawal can be deadly, as we keep seeing as our community members die while incarcerated. Our communities deserve better. Rest in power Andrew. (Image: purple and pink background, text: Drug users are people deserving of care, not cops. The people want police oversight, but the commission is troubled and instead of righting it, the FOP wants even more ineffective. (Image: dark purple, a pink stick figure shushing, text: What are Philly Police trying to hide? The Citizen’s Police Oversight Commission was approved by Philadelphian voters in 2020.
The city says the CPOC “oversees and investigates the conduct, policies, and practices of the Philadelphia Police Department” (phila.gov)
In reality, the CPOC have only been allowed to review PPD’s investigations and make suggestions, which are frequently disregarded.
The FOP is bargaining to:
Conceal the names of officers involved in shootings.
Stop the CPOC from investigating police misconduct.
The city reports 12 PPD shootings resulting in 5 deaths. January-November 2024 (phila.gov) ) 👀

Enrollment is now open for the Spring 2025 cycle of IDHA's Transformative Mental Health Core Curriculum!

Amid so much political upheaval, collective mourning, and systemic injustice, it’s more important than ever to deepen our skills and knowledge of transformative care practices that honor the vital link between personal and societal transformation. The challenges of today’s world cannot be separated from our emotional lives. That’s why we designed a mental health curriculum that addresses both the personal and the political, and shares concrete strategies to become a more justice-informed care provider.

We just launched 3 new cohorts for the curriculum’s Learning Experience format, which offers 12 hours of facilitated virtual discussions in addition to the curriculum’s pre-recorded content. For those who prefer learning in community and with a set timeline, this is a great opportunity to join a group of practitioners and advocates committed to reimagining mental health practice.

These cohorts will run between March and June of 2025. This immersive, community-oriented experience only happens twice a year, and spots are limited. Enrollment closes February 28, so don’t wait to secure your seat!

The Core Curriculum bridges lived wisdom with research and professional perspectives. It contains 22 hours of pre-recorded video lessons, curated and exclusive readings, and reflective journaling in a supplemental workbook. 20.75 Continuing Education Credits are available for Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, Therapists, Medical Doctors, Nurses, and NY Peer Specialists.
