On March 6, HUP’s Labor & Delivery Unit hosted the Eichhorn family and the Adalyn Rose Foundation for a special dedication ceremony celebrating the addition of Max’s Angel Closet to the Remembrance Cart. 🤍

Max’s Angel Closet was created by Meghan and Frank Eichhorn in loving memory of their son, Maxwell “Max” James Eichhorn, who was born sleeping in September 2024. In honor of what would have been Max’s first birthday, the Eichhorn family chose a meaningful way to continue sharing love with other families experiencing loss.

The closet provides beautiful sleeper gowns, undershirts, hats, bows, nameplates, and keepsake bags which allows parents the opportunity to dress their baby, create memories, and take-home cherished mementos.

This addition builds on the Remembrance Cart dedicated in Max’s honor in January 2025 and supports the ongoing work of the Labor & Delivery Bereavement Committee (Co-chairs: Alaysa Conaway, BSN-RN, RN-OBC, C-EFM and Diana Tucker, BSN-RN, C-EFM) to enhance care and memory-making for families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss.

The PeriOperative Patient Care Units (PCUs) United on National Wear Red Day!

HUP’s PreOP/PACU team proudly joined the nationwide movement for National Wear Red Day to raise awareness about women’s heart health. Heart disease remains to be the number one threat to women's health. By wearing red, staff showed their support for the millions of women affected by cardiovascular disease and helped spark important conversations about prevention, education, and early detection.

This powerful display of unity reflects HUP’s ongoing commitment to patient-centered care and advocacy, which can save lives.

Thank you to our incredible nurses and staff for leading the charge and standing up for women’s heart health! ❤️

HUP’s Patient & Guest Relations Department and the Listening Lab are proud to partner with Pan-Asian American Community House at the University of Pennsylvania. This relationship began during PMX Week this past fall with origami workshops and a shared message of hope through cranes.

This month, that partnership continued at PAACH’s Mandala Coloring & Welcome Event, where each mandala created will become part of the upcoming PAACH mural, which is a beautiful reflection of creativity, culture, and community.

Picture #1 (L–R): Cindy Au-Kramer (PAACH Finance, Operations & Program Coordinator); Aaron Levy (Director of Health Humanities Initiatives and the Listening Lab); Michelle Feil (Director of the Family Caregiver Center, HUP); Emily Coder (Emily Coder from HUP’s Patient & Guest Relations Department); Vicky Faye Aquino (Associate Director, PAACH); and Lisa Sator (Director of Patient Experience, HUP) .

Congratulations to our 2026 recipient: Lindsay Foster, BSN, RN CN4

The Gretchen Schaller Mentorship Award is presented to an SFAS, in honor of Gretchen Schaller, RN. Gretchen promoted and assisted the careers of others by being a source of open communication, trust and guidance through mentorship. The awardee will demonstrate qualities and values that reflect the spirit and legacy of Gretchen.

After just one day as a primary nurse, Lindsay created a powerful shift. By taking the time to truly listen and understand, she recognized that a family member’s heightened emotions were rooted in fear, grief, and helplessness. She responded not with defensiveness, but with compassion, patience, and clarity, which built trust step by step.

Because of her empathy and intentional care, walls came down. By the end of their time together, that same family member was smiling, taking walks, and finally resting peacefully through the night. A remarkable transformation made possible by a nurse who leads with heart.

Lindsay’s ability to mentor with purpose and care with deep empathy reflects the very best of Gretchen’s legacy. She uplifts patients, families, and the entire SFAS team every single day.

❤️ February was all about Heart Health at HUP Cedar! ❤️

We were proud to host a community Health Fair focused on caring for the heart and offering a variety of FREE activities and wellness stations for all who attended.

Guests enjoyed blood pressure screenings, nutrition education with a registered dietitian, chair exercises led by physical and occupational therapists, a cardiology presentation by Dr. Gerald Devaughn, and fresh groceries provided by HUP Harvest.

It was an incredible day of education, movement, and community connection which was all centered around living heart-healthy lives. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a success!
