It feels like Christmas! Omugwo in Igo, Olójòjò in Yuroba, Mothering The Mother. The traditional Nigerian practice of postpartum care where a new mother’s mother, mother-in-law, aunt/etc stays with her for several weeks (30-90 days) to assist with the baby, household chores, cooking, and to provide guidance on childcare. It is designed to support the new mother’s recovery, prevent postpartum depression, and aid the transition to motherhood.

Thank you Mama for taking the time to document and share your wisdom and connecting the community across the globe. Only when we tell our stories can we control the narratives and ensure they live on throughout generations 💜. Many blessings your way 🙏🏿.
