The population of cancer survivors in the US continues to grow. As of Jan. 1, 2025, about 1 out of every 18 Americans (18.6 million people) was a cancer survivor. By 2035, that number is projected to exceed 22 million. According to a new report, Cancer Treatment and Survivorship Statistics, 2025, from the American Cancer Society (ACS), there were also notable disparities found in treatment for many common cancers, including lung and colorectal. If you will be having fun outdoors this summer (and everyday) take steps to protect your skin from the sun! Did you know that ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun and tanning beds is the #1 cause of skin cancer?
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that we all practice sun safety year-round! Follow three simple steps while outside:
• Seek shade when needed
• Wear sun-protective clothing
• Apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher
