Lets talk about Autism:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neuro-developmental disorder that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. As the name implies, there is a spectrum, or range, of symptoms, severity, and presentation. People with ASD may perceive the world differently than neurotypical individuals, sometimes engaging in repetitive behaviors and experiencing sensory sensitivities 🧩

Some people are high-functioning and high-masking, which can make it difficult for others to detect or be mindful of one's sensitivities. Others may experience much greater challenges with behavior, communication, and social situations 💬

Although there is no "cure" for autism, we can provide you with the resources and tools to effectively cope with the symptoms. Through different types of therapy such as ABA, speech therapy, psychotherapy, and behavioral therapy, we can come to greater understand and handles the symptoms when they arise. We also use a multi-faceted approach in our practice, where treatment may also integrate parent and family support, neuro-feedback, and medication 🧠

Have you ever wanted to use video games to better your mental health?

In our practice, we have a select few providers who utilize virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET). This involves creating a computer-generated, immersive virtual environment that simulates real-life situations or scenarios that trigger anxiety or fear. 🎮

The virtual environment is designed to closely resemble anxiety-inducing situations that you want to overcome. Maybe you are afraid of spiders, or feel anxiety running through your body when you think about driving a car or getting on an airplane. The virtual reality settings can allow you to safely start exploring these environments to ease you into realizations of safety and conquering your fears! 👾

At Psych Associates, we value the practice of mindfulness 🧠

Mindfulness and meditation are practices that involve focusing one’s attention and awareness on the present moment. These practices can reduce stress, enhance emotional regulation, and improve focus and concentration. By acknowledging and accepting thoughts and feelings without judgment, mindfulness encourages a healthy, balanced perspective ☯️

We offer different therapeutic techniques to embrace these practices, either directly with your clinician during therapy sessions, or through alternative practices like sound healing and reiki 🔮

When feeling stressed and overwhelmed, it can be so important to take a step back from everything, bring yourself back into the present moment, and just breathe 🌬️
