A case series describes two young immunocompetent patients with herpes simplex virus (HSV) hepatitis-associated acute liver failure (ALF), which progressed to death. The authors say gynecologic surgery in both patients created a nidus for HSV dissemination into the bloodstream, allowing for hematogenous spread to the liver.
