DECODING TEXTS IN DATING IS EMOTIONAL LABOR

All that time you are spending deciphering men’s texts finally has a name. Hemeneutic Labor ✔️

You aren’t crazy…this is a thing. And the work to understand the meaning and tone of texting during the dating process can be overwhelming.

In a recent interview with , I discuss how this manifests in women’s’ experience and tips to deal with it.

First, it feels awful because you have done it before in childhood 👧🏾

👉🏿“many women have a history of failed attempts to track the emotional impact of life on the men in their social world growing up. Dating feels like a repeat of the past.”

How to improve communication has two early stages

👉🏿 Ask do clarity
Be clear and lean in for more clarity. For instance, if you’re only receiving texts in the morning and that’s causing communication problems...say something like, “It seems like mornings are the best time for you to connect, right? Is there a way for you to briefly respond to my more timely texts at night?”

👉🏿 Participate instead of respond

If you need more time to respond to a text because you can’t find the language to communicate your feelings, there’s no shame in sending a text that says, “Hey, I received this but just give me a little time to respond.”

And if you’re dating and realize that you’re sabotaging good connections because of poor communication...take time to practice emotional expressivity with your friends and family, to get in the habit of it.

Thank you for this lovely piece and seeing women’s’ experiences with such grace! ♥️🙏🏿

3 Internalized Beliefs To Change About Your Health 🧠

It’s Minority Health Month! ✨

Many of the health disparities for communities of color are linked to internalized narratives that have been passed down for generations. While they have historic truth, we continue to experience premature death and adverse outcomes due to these beliefs. Let’s embark on a journey of reshaping the narratives surrounding healthcare within communities of color. ✨

🩺 "You can't trust the doctor."
Reframe: "I can find a doctor I trust."

👉🏿Trust is a foundation that must be built. If trust is broken, seek a provider who supports you. Let's change this narrative to avert adverse outcomes in our community.

🩺 "I am too busy."
Reframe: "I will prioritize my life. Nothing is more important."

👉🏿Historical barriers have led to the belief that health should take a backseat. Your well-being deserves time; make it a priority amidst life's demands.

🩺 “I don't want to know. Knowing what's wrong will make it worse."
Reframe: "I am able to handle the truth and get help."

👉🏿Fear can cloud judgment, but knowledge empowers. Embrace the truth, seek support, and take charge of your health with compassion.

Together, let's empower ourselves to advocate for our health, challenge misconceptions, and foster a culture of well-being and support within our communities. ✊🏿💬

Who would narrate an audiobook about your life? 🎙Who do you allow access to your inner world/being seen…together?

We go through life with so many different experiences. The highs, the lows, all the plot twists, and unexpected adventures, but sometimes those memories fade. Imagine you decided to take notes about your life and turn them into audiobooks. Who would be the voice behind the scenes? 📚✨

Would it be a close relative or friend? Who would you allow to have access to your inner world?🥰

We all live our day-to-day lives with multiple thoughts and dozens of tasks. We appear to juggle everything so effortlessly to the outside world, but deep down inside, we fall apart. 💔 If this is something you are experiencing, chances are you have high-functioning anxiety.

High-functioning anxiety is the feeling we give ourselves to want to excel mixed with the fear of failure. Perfectionism drives us to achieve yet leaves us feeling never good enough. 😔. You may even feel it in your body through exhaustion, jitters, trouble with sleeping, or even muscle tension.

As high-performing women, it is often internalized through anxiety, believing that it's just part of the price for success. You push yourself harder, thinking that if you work just a little bit harder, you can outrun your anxiety. Unfortunately, it intensifies overwhelming feelings.

You are allowed peace and grace. 💜 You are not defined by your title or the awards you've won. You are enough and deserve to honor yourself one step at a time. 👏🏿

The Mother-Daughter 👩🏿‍👧🏿connection is a unique dynamic. Our relationship with our mothers has a profound impact on our sense of self and our connections with others. 💗

💐The trust we develop in women, starting with the first influential figure in our lives, sets the tone for how we perceive and engage with the world.

💐Our inner dialogue, often shaped by the conversations and dynamics with our mothers, can either nurture our self-worth or sow seeds of doubt and insecurity.

💐Boundaries, or the lack thereof, within this foundational relationship can ripple into how we navigate boundaries with ourselves and those around us.

In my therapeutic work with mother-daughters, I’ve seen how identifying key impacts in your life can lead to profound healing and growth.

Celebrating Black Brilliance: Today and Everyday! ✊🏿🌟

Too often, the world seeks to dim the light of Black excellence; it's crucial to amplify and honor the brilliants within the Black community, not just today but every single day.🙌🏿 It encompasses resilience, innovation, creativity, and more. It's a force that has shaped history and culture and continues to drive positive global change.

Today, we stand in awe of Black individuals' countless contributions to every facet of society. Black brilliance knows no bounds, from science to art, literature to technology. We also recognize the brilliance that resides in the everyday heroes who uplift their communities, the educators who inspire generations, the entrepreneurs who create opportunities, and the activists who fight tirelessly for justice and equality. 🖤

In celebrating, we must also confront the systemic barriers and injustices that continue to hinder progress and limit opportunities for many within the Black community. It's not enough to acknowledge excellence; we must actively work towards dismantling the structures of oppression that seek to suppress it.

So, today and every day, let us commit ourselves to uplifting Black voices, supporting Black-owned businesses, advocating for equitable policies, and standing in solidarity against racism and discrimination in all its forms. Let us create spaces where Black brilliance can thrive unapologetically, where every dream can flourish, and every talent can shine. 🌟✨

Happy Black History Month ✊🏿🙌🏿

Embrace a Clear Path to a Vibrant Future 🌟

Let's embark on a transformation journey together, releasing the things that no longer serve us. We are now opening doors to endless possibilities and paving the way for a vibrant future. 💫✨
It's time to reflect on what we hold on to that's holding us back. Is it fear, doubt, or old habits that no longer serve our growth? Let's identify these obstacles and make room for the new.

🌱 Here's how we can release them and thrive:
1️⃣ Acknowledge: Recognize what no longer serves you. This could be toxic relationships, limiting beliefs, or clutter in your physical and mental space.

2️⃣ Let Go with Love: Release with compassion. Letting go doesn't mean failure; it means making space for growth and new opportunities.

3️⃣ Set Intentions: Visualize your vibrant future. What does it look like? Set clear intentions and align your actions with your vision.

4️⃣ Take Action: Start small. Whether decluttering your space, practicing self-care, or stepping out of your comfort zone, take actionable steps toward your goals.

5️⃣ Stay Present: Embrace the journey. Remember, transformation is a process. Stay present, be patient with yourself, and celebrate every step forward.

Let's release what no longer serves us and enter a future filled with joy, abundance, and endless possibilities!
