October 10 is World Mental Health Day

Mental health is just as important as physical health—at every age. Mental health matters—for our clients, caregivers, and families. On World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded that caring for the mind is just as important as caring for the body.
At Golden Age, we recognize that caring for others starts with understanding their emotional well-being. Whether it's companionship, active listening, or a calming presence, our caregivers are here for the whole person.

Let’s check in, speak up, and support one another with compassion, empathy and kindness.
You’re not alone. We’re here to help—body, mind, and heart.

💉💉 It’s Flu Vaccine Season – Protect Your Loved Ones!
As we step into October, it’s the perfect time to get your annual flu shot—especially for seniors, caregivers, and anyone with chronic health conditions.
At Golden Age Home Care, we encourage all clients, families, and staff to take this simple step to stay protected. The flu can be serious—but it’s also preventable.
Why get it now?
The CDC recommends getting the flu vaccine by the end of October for best protection throughout the season, especially for seniors and people with chronic health conditions.
The flu vaccine takes about 2 weeks to build immunity, and flu season often peaks between December and February—so October is ideal!
🛡Let’s work together to keep our community healthy and safe this winter.
Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or care provider about flu shots today.

🙌 Caregivers play a major role in preventing falls.
Attentiveness makes all the difference. What caregivers can help is:
đź‘€ Observe:
Watch for unsteady movements, hesitation when walking, or frequent grabbing for support
Notice medication side effects or new health complaints

🧹 Check the environment:
Is lighting bright enough?
Are shoes safe?
Are mobility aids within reach?

🗣️ Communicate:
Report any fall, even a minor one
Keep healthcare providers in the loop
Encourage exercise or PT/OT involvement

As Fall Prevention Week comes to a close, we want to recognize our amazing caregivers who work every day to keep clients safe, mobile, and confident at home.
Preventing falls is a team effort—and you’re at the heart of it.
Thank you for being the frontline of fall prevention every day. đź’›

Move More, Fall Less

Regular movement improves:
âś… Balance
âś… Strength
âś… Coordination
âś… Confidence
Some great low-impact activities include:
Chair yoga
Tai chi
Walking with a caregiver
Balance exercises (like standing on one foot while holding a chair)

It’s never too late to start moving more—every bit of movement helps reduce fall risk. Ask your care team about safe options for your loved one.
đź’Ş Strong today, steady tomorrow.

đź’Š Time for a Medicine Cabinet Check!
Some medications can cause dizziness, drowsiness, or low blood pressure—all of which increase fall risk.
Talk to a pharmacist or doctor about:
âś… Side effects
âś… Interactions
âś… Adjusting dosage or timing
Avoid mixing prescriptions with over-the-counter meds without checking interactions.

💡 🩺 Your health can affect your balance. Have your eyes and feet checked
đź‘“ Vision check-ups:
Update eyeglasses annually
Poor depth perception increases fall risk indoors and out

👣 Footwear matters:
Choose shoes with non-slip soles and avoid walking in socks or slippers
Have your healthcare provider check your feet once a year
Preventing falls doesn’t always require big efforts —just smart adjustments.

🏠 Make your home safer. 🏠
🛋️ Let’s talk about the home. Many falls happen where we feel safest—at home.
Here are key home safety tips for seniors:
âś… Remove clutter from walkways and stairs. A clutter-free space is a safer space!
✅ Secure rugs with non-slip backing or remove them entirely: Small tripping hazards—like loose rugs, shoes, or electrical cords—can lead to big consequences.
âś… Keep frequently used items within reach without using a step stool
âś… Add grab bars in the bathroom and near stairs
âś… Use non-slip mats in showers and tubs
âś… Ensure bright lighting in all rooms and hallways
These changes take minutes—but can prevent months of recovery.

🍂 Fall Prevention Awareness Week starts now🍂
Why Fall Prevention Matters
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
➡️ More than 1 in 4 adults aged 65 and older falls each year, but less than half tell their doctor. ➡️ Falling once doubles your chances of falling again
➡️ Falls are the leading cause of traumatic brain injuries and/or iinjury-related deaths in this age group
📌 This week, we're sharing tips to help keep our seniors safe and steady at home. Because every step matters. 💛
Yet, most falls are preventable so let’s take a falls-free checkup to determine whether you at risk for falling. The checkup can be accessed at: https://www.ncoa.org/tools/falls-free-checkup/

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one-fourth of Americans aged 65+ falls each year. Answer a few quick questions to assess your risk of falling and get a personalized report to share with your health care provider.

đź’ˇ Understanding Payroll Deductions
At Golden Age Home Care, we believe in keeping our caregivers informed about how payroll works. One important part of your paycheck is payroll deductions—the amounts taken out before you receive your net pay.
Here are the most common and generally accepted deductions:
✔️ Federal Income Tax – Withheld based on your earnings and the information you provide on your W-4.
✔️ State & Local Taxes – Required by the state of Pennsylvania and certain municipalities in which you work.
✔️ Social Security & Medicare (F**A Taxes) – Mandatory contributions that help fund retirement and healthcare benefits for everyone.
✔️ Wage Garnishments – Court-ordered deductions, such as child support; state or local tax liability
✔️ Voluntary Deductions – These happen only if you choose to enroll, such as health insurance, commuter/parking benefits, or 401(k) retirement contributions or other pre-tax programs. They may also apply if you were overpaid and have agreed to a repayment arrangement.

📌 Remember: All payroll deductions are carefully regulated to comply with state and federal law. Voluntary deductions are applied only with your authorization. In cases of wage overpayment, your written consent is required before any deduction is made—ensuring fairness and transparency in payroll practices.
We value your trust and are here to answer any questions about your paycheck. If you ever need clarification, please reach out to HR—we’re happy to help! 💙
