The recognition of s*x workers on this day began with a protest. On June 2, 1975, s*x workers began a weeklong occupation at the Saint-Nizier Church in France where they demanded the ends of fines, stigma, and police harassment within the s*x worker community. Thank you Harvey for all you did for the LGBTQ community🏳️‍🌈. Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California, significantly impacted the LGBTQ community through his activism and public service. He spearheaded the passage of a landmark anti-discrimination ordinance in San Francisco, banned discrimination based on s*xual orientation in public accommodations, housing, and employment. Milk also championed the defeat of Proposition 6, which aimed to ban gay teachers, and inspired future generations of LGBTQ Americans to run for office.

That’s why culturally responsive care, inclusive research, and community-based outreach are essential parts of ending the HIV epidemic.
