As an athlete, slowing down was never a priority. ⁣

You were GO GO GO. Always on the move. Every minute of your day filled with *something* that was moving you towards your goals. ⁣

This left you feeling prepared and productive🙌🏼 Gold stars all around🌟🌟🌟⁣

But how many of you, whether deep down or very much so at the surface, felt completely burned out, disconnected, and down right exhausted???🙋🏼‍♀️⁣

Society and sport culture conditions you to believe, “if you aren’t DOING THE MOST, then you aren’t doing enough.”⁣

If you aren’t doing enough, YOU aren’t enough. Does this hit home?💔⁣

In life after sport, you may find yourself struggling to keep your head above water, especially with less structure than you had while competing and in school.⁣

This is a completely valid experience, yet it will take time and energy to shift out of this GO GO GO mindset. ⁣

I never in a million years thought I’d join a gym again.

Yet…here we are and I’m heading there for my third day in a row😳

What changed?

I was a competitive athlete for 14 years. I became accustomed to training HARD 5 or 6 days a week. I consistently pushed my body and mind to its limits.

In time, this wore me down; i got burnt out. I became a shell of my truest and brightest Self.

This led me to develop an extremely negative relationship with exercise; in particular, with doing anything that elevated my heart rate and even more so about leaving my comfort zone (my house) to do so.

Because of the chronic stress I’d put myself through, my body started to associate exercise/gyms with DANGER. My body was literally going into fight or flight mode at THE THOUGHT of stepping into a gym.

So I didn’t. For nearly 10 years post-swimming career.

So I’ll ask again: what changed?

I did. My goals have. And I’ve realized that I was the only person standing in the way of feeling the way I want to feel.

It’s not change that is hard; it’s the RESISTANCE to change that keeps us stuck. It’s the fear of “who am I without ____” behavior, belief, etc.

Todays goal? To DO THE THING in spite of that fear. To take it one step at a time instead of allowing myself to be overwhelmed by all the things I don’t know or haven’t achieved yet. To be here, right where my feet are.

Who resonates with this? Reminder: You don’t have to move through these changes and fears alone!

Hi, I’m Madeline and there’s a few things you should know about me:

🏊🏻‍♀️I’m a former collegiate swimmer who now coaches/mentors former athletes
❤️‍🔥I’m a highly sensitive person and have ADHD (and wasn’t diagnosed until I was in my 30’s)
🌟I have my PhD in Exercise and Sport Psychology and half of my work with athletes involves evidence-based practices including mindfulness, cognitive reframing, strengths-based strategies, and more.

The other half? Is a combination of spiritual and holistic practices🪐🌙

I use tools such as human design, reiki, astrology, astro-mapping, oracle cards, and my own intuition to help my clients embody their true Self❤️‍🔥🌟

My favorite place to live and work is at the intersection of science and the soul👩🏼‍🎓🔮

While I’ve talked openly about reiki and human design, I sometimes “hide” my deep fascination in astrology.

I’ve allowed people’s comments and tik tok videos (talking down on astrology) to influence how I speak about it with clients or on social media: Either with shame/embarrassment or not at all.

But no more! Because I 100% believe the planets affect us. I believe that everything is energy and that all of us are at least ✨a little✨ psychic.

I’m choosing to unbecome the beliefs about spirituality that are out of alignment with who I am. I’m shamelessly sensitive, and I mean that in regard to the planets, energy, and otherwise🔥

If this isn’t something you resonate with, that is perfectly fine. Being different is my favorite part of studying psychology and working with human beings.

I feel it’s important to recognize and respect our differences🙏🏼

On the other hand, if you DO resonate with these intuitive practices and would like to work with a mentor who incorporates crystals, energy healing, astrology, and intuition into your Self embodiment work, then I’m your girl🙋🏼‍♀️

5 things I wish I could share with my 22-year old self🏊🏻‍♀️🎓

✨Swimming was your first love but it won’t be your ONLY love; grieve the loss and let it go❤️

✨Swimming gave you purpose, but you are SO MUCH MORE than an athlete. Let yourself explore your other interests and passions; do more of what lights you up!🔥

✨I know your swimming accomplishments made you feel special, and without the opportunity to perform/compete, you feel less than…but I’m here to remind you that it is YOU, the human, who is special, simply because you ✨exist✨ And you are loved (by the right people) whether you are “successful” or not💫💕

✨You feel lost right now and I know that’s scary. You’re so used to being in control and having structure and certainty. But in reality? True certainty doesn’t exist. And, in time, you’ll learn to get comfortable with uncertainty. You’ll learn to lean into your fears. You’ll see failure as your greatest teacher🙌🏼

✨SLOW THE F DOWN! The more go go go you are, the more roadblocks you’ll hit. Pump the breaks, maybe even put it in reverse. Reflect on what you’ve learned and let go of what is no longer in alignment. Practice presence a little each day🧘🏼‍♀️

I could go on and on. But you get the point. No one has it all figured out at 22.

TBH I don’t have it all figured out a decade later at 32😅

But the difference between 22 and 32…is that I’m okay with that. I’m choosing to take it one day at a time. I’m (still) in no rush. My life is NOT a race. I’m right where I’m meant to be❤️‍🔥
