Remember this guy? Willard Scott spent a lot of time down here in Florida.

Willard Scott frequented the Lighthouse Cafe in Sanibel Island from 1988 until 2021.

They say Willard and his wife would come to the cafe every Sunday during most of the winter season for creamed chipped beef on toast.

He was an unpretentious and gregarious guy. He was best known as a weather presenter, actor, author, television personality, and of course celebrating centenarians' birthdays. Willard sadly passed in September '21.

In 1946, a mother sent President Harry Truman $10 and asked that it be used to pay for a birthday cake for her son who was serving in the Navy. Truman forwarded the request to the sailor's CO, who then had the ship's cooks bake a big fancy cake. Remember: Your mom will go to the top of the chain of command for you.
