This year marked a significant milestone for the Department of Ophthalmology and the Scheie Eye Institute, as we celebrated the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Richard, Maria, and Kristin Campbell Ophthalmic Suite on the fifth floor of our flagship building at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center!

We are deeply grateful for the extensive and profound impact of the Campbell family's philanthropy, which has elevated patient care and enriched research opportunities, community engagement, trainee support, and faculty development through an endowed lectureship.

When Jim Berger first stepped into the Scheie Eye Institute’s darkroom over 30 years ago, he was not aware that ophthalmic photography would lie in store for his career. Jim’s 30 years and counting at Scheie have been defined by his craftsmanship and continual learning of new innovations—as well as his dedication to both patients and physicians. Jim has made countless stories, conditions, and data visible through film, slides—and later on, pixels.
