Navigating hormonal changes and evolving social dynamics may bring on new challenges for kids in middle school. Crushes feel even more heartbreaking, friend groups change, and some children may bring their gender identity and sexuality into question.

You may feel your child begin to pull away at this age, and they may be less communicative about what is going on in their life. This can be a helpful indicator that they may benefit from starting therapy!

We are here to help. Reach out to be matched with the right therapist and service today 🌈

If your child is feeling any hesitation about starting therapy, remind them that it's quite similar to going to the doctor.

When you have a stuffy nose and you don't feel well, you go to the doctor to make sure that everything's okay. It's the same when you're having difficult feelings!

Going to a therapist or psychologist is like going to the feelings doctor. They're here to help you navigate these difficult feelings that you may have. They're here to listen and give you support 🌈

Feeling nervous about your child's first session and what to expect? We've got you!

Most kids therapy offices are set up with a few chairs, a couch, and plenty of toys and activities.

Your first session with us will consist of a 90 minute intake assessment. You will typically meet with the therapist together with your child, and also potentially alone (depending on your child's age). Then, the therapist will also meet with your child alone, in order for them to fully assess the best way to approach therapy.

Friendly reminder that it's normal if your child doesn't want to go to therapy. It can be intimidating, especially when there is still a societal stigma that says if you go to therapy, it's because there's a problem.

Try to normalize your child's feelings around starting therapy, and also understand that they might go to therapy and still have those feelings.

Those of us who work with kids, especially adolescents, are trained in resistance, and it's totally a normal part of the process! So remember that it has nothing to do with you, and it has nothing to do with your child or the therapist.
