FDA recalls cinnamon from 11 popular spice brands due to high concentration of lead - AGAIN...

Lead can affect nearly every bodily system, but its effect depends on the amount and duration of exposure, as well as the individual's age and body weight, according to the FDA. For children, exposure to enough lead for weeks to months could cause permanent damage to their central nervous system, resulting in learning disorders, developmental defects, and other long-term health problems, the federal agency added.

What is cinnamon good for? Cinnamon is a popular spice known for its strong aroma and medicinal properties. From Indian to Italian, many cuisines celebrate the goodness of this spice. It has a sweet, warm, and woody flavor with a slightly spicy undertone, making it a popular ingredient in both sweet and savory dishes. Cinnamon is widely used in baking (like cakes, cookies, and pies), beverages (chai, hot chocolate, and mulled wine), curries, and stews.
Cinnamon is a spice with numerous health benefits, including antioxidant properties, potential blood sugar regulation, and anti-inflammatory effects.

Check out the list of brands and remove them immediately from your pantry, as lead is particularly harmful to children.

Another cinnamon product is being recalled over elevated lead levels, the FDA announced on Sept. 26.

As a result of President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” approved by the Republican-controlled Congress, about 42,000 people in Philadelphia – that includes kids and older people – are slated to be kicked off of SNAP (food stamps). This will be devastating for anyone who is currently receiving SNAP; particularly for children who need this benefit to survive daily.

In 2023, 47 million people in the United States lived in food-insecure households.

40,000 boxes of food are delivered to seniors each month in the Philadelphia area.

Over 800 schools in the Philadelphia area are served food through this program.
