The European Union recently announced a ban on an ingredient commonly used in manicures and pedicures, classifying it as “carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic to reproduction.” The ingredient — trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide (TPO) — reacts to UV or LED light, helping gel nail polish cure and transform into a hard, glossy finish.
