I wanted to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to Chief Ashe and her entire staff from Milford Police Department You were so welcoming to me this past week, I couldn’t be more grateful🙏🏼💙

I loved getting to meet everyone and share best practices for better, more restful sleep, while sharing an experiential practice of iRest meditation with you as well. I know shift work can do a number on your ability to get solid rest, and I hope our session allowed you to walk away with some new skills for support.

I say it all the time - you’re just family I hadn’t met yet. You know how to find me from here on out🙂

Stay safe to all🙏🏼💙

Our schedules are full. Our heads are full. We can use a little space in our lives... don't you think?

So, let's start by taking a minute to:

🧡 stop thinking and start feeling.

🧡 notice our senses.

🧡 recognize how we're feeling as we look, listen and smell.

And, if you can carve a little more space and time for yourself, you can find free guided-meditations to enjoy anywhere, at any time 👉 https://jenniferboileau.com/.

As a first-responder, healthcare or military professional, critical incidents are common occurrences, unfortunately.

So, following intense situations— like a foot pursuit, code, or seeing something that triggers a past trauma— deescalating your body’s stress level is imperative.

To regulate on-the-spot, try employing the following micro-processing tactics:

❤️ Notice your heart rate. If it’s racing, try to slow down your breath with an extended exhale to calm the nervous system.

🫁 Notice your breath rate. If it's quick and shallow, try slowing it by extending the exhale or imagine breathing around the four sides of a box to create some pauses in your breath rate.

😤 If it’s still too fast, continue to extend the length of each exhale.

An 'invisible accommodation' is a physical cue that doesn’t stand-out. It's an item that acts as a visual prompt, which brings you back to a supportive practice that allows you to maintain composure when dealing with something overwhelming.

When I was a special education teacher years ago, I shared the concept of ‘invisible accommodations’ with students, so they could tap into support for self-regulation that nobody would notice.

This way, they wouldn’t stand-out and feel different. The same applies to adults.

If while at work, during a training, or at a party, you’re feeling anxious and need to center, having an accommodation to utilize— without anybody noticing— is ideal.

Often, I use wristbands with the word BREATHE as an invisible accommodation to cue a breath practice.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, or if you’re experiencing a panic attack, trying to remember theories won't be helpful in that moment. But a visual cue kept on-hand or on your person, can help quickly bring you back to a practice that helps you move through the difficult situation.

It’s the simplicity that makes it work. 😊

Taking a minute here and there to notice the breath, and stretch it out, can be a game changer for your nervous system. Simple, quick practices help you so much over time. Those minutes add up…a box breath can help🙏🏼💙

It's said that a 'good night's sleep can make all the difference,' but in actuality it's sleep quality that makes THE difference. 😴🌙💤

For more restful sleep, try:

💤 Limiting caffeine intake.

💤 Keeping naps and meditation to less than 30 min. a day.

💤 Being mindful of your body temperature while sleeping.

💤 Engaging in a 15 min. iRest© practice, 3-4 times each week.

iRest© meditation makes getting better sleep a dream come true! 💭😁💓

And, if you have erratic sleep patterns due to stress and/or shift work, then you know just how important it is to be able to quickly reset and refresh your mind.

In fact, just 20-minutes of iRest© a few times during the week can mimic 8-hours of sleep! 💤

That's why I developed a one-hour workshop, "Brain, Body & Breath" (a.k.a. The 3Bs), to teach LEOs, healthcare and military professionals, and first responders how to utilize iRest© meditation, yoga and breathwork to generate, increase and harness the power of inner resilience, on-demand, so they can quickly and impactfully rest their minds. 😴

Every year, I grow more grateful for the opportunity to teach people who are working in high-stress occupations (and their loved ones) how to find resilience and balance in life through restorative practices, like iRest©, meditation and breathwork.

Sharing the depth of my experience as both a LEO spouse and the breadth of my mindfulness coaching with the law enforcement, first responder, healthcare and veteran communities, is not only my mission, but my purpose. 💓

From a one-hour “Brain, Body & Resilience Practices to Foster Inner Resilience” workshop, to a two-hour self-care practice, or half-day iRest© and yoga training, I can present and customize an in-service specific to your group’s objectives and needs.

Immediate dates are available. To learn more, please contact me at 302.229.5265, or jennifer@jenniferboileau.com. 📲
