Self-care can include the things on this to-do list, but it can be so much more. Self-care includes being kind to yourself, eating when you're hungry, resting when you are tired, taking a shower, doing a hobby, and all of the other things that make you feel good. Give it a try!

Anger is an important human emotion. It often tells us when we are not getting what we want or need or that our boundaries are being violated. 1. Listen to what your anger is telling you. 2. Pause. 3. Communicate what you learn in a calm, assertive way.

It's easy to feel angry. There are so many things in the world that can trigger anger. Your partner not doing their share of chores, your child not listening, drivers who are not careful around pedestrians and bikers, and so much more. How do you express your anger when one of these triggers shows up? Do you react by yelling, threatening, or throwing something? Do you hold it in and then react disproportionally when someone else does something annoying?

What if you could learn to respond appropriately when you feel angry, expressing your anger to the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way? You can and Serenity Solutions can help. We offer a 10-week anger management group where you will learn how to: 1. catch yourself when you start to feel worked up, 2. bring down thoughts and feelings of anger, and 3. communicate in calm, respectful ways.

The next group is starting soon. Call 267-277-3554 now for your free 15-minute phone consultation to learn more and register. https://buff.ly/3bf7mus

I saw this at my hairdresser’s salon. Many people look forward to their hair appointment, having developed a close relationship with their hairstylist over the years. They become good friends and are great listeners. You leave your appointment feeling better, not just because of your haircut but because you got a lot off your chest and felt heard and understood. If life is going well, every 6 weeks is enough. If not, you can't rely on your hairstylist to help you through the tough times. A trained professional is needed not only to listen but to provide feedback and teach you helpful coping strategies. It is worth your time and money to meet with a therapist weekly to work through current and past hurts. And you are worth it!

Most people think the goal of Anger Management is to stop feeling angry. While that makes sense, it's a risky goal. When we do things to try to get rid of uncomfortable feelings like anger, we put ourselves at risk for the emotion coming back stronger or for engaging in another behavior that isn't beneficial in the long run. For example, if you stuff your feelings of anger and don't say anything when you feel angry, and you do this regularly, those feelings of anger will build up inside of you. This can lead to depression, health problems, or an anger outburst. When we react in anger, we get the feelings out and also decrease the uncomfortable physical sensations that come along with it. Unfortunately, our relationships and our job are at risk when we do this.

If anger management is not about getting rid of the feeling of anger, what does it do? Anger management helps people change their behavioral responses when they feel angry. You can learn how to sit with the discomfort of the feeling of anger and learn how to express your anger in respectful ways. The feeling may come and go, but you can feel good about how you responded, instead of regretting how you reacted.

Lucy van Pelt from the Peanuts comic strip is not the best choice for a psychiatrist. She is sarcastic and has a bossy demeanor. While her blunt honesty provides some comic relief, her lack of empathy and understanding would not make her an ideal mental health professional. Additionally, she misused the term psychiatrist, as she was actually pretending to be a therapist, not a psychiatrist.
