National Health Corps Philadelphia NHC Philadephia Members serve to improve access to care and help individuals and communities become healthier in the City of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Health Corps places members at community-based organizations in Philadelphia that work to improve access to care and to help individuals and communities become healthier. Our members do this by providing health outreach in communities, health education workshops, health screenings, social services, case management, benefits assistance, and patient advocacy. Our members also participat

e in team meetings and training's, service projects, member committees, and an annual retreat to help them build an esprit de corps and create friendships that last a lifetime. The expectation is that through their year of service, our members will be given an opportunity to significantly improve the health of those they serve and to have a fulfilling and rewarding experience that exposes them to a variety of healthcare careers and settings.

February is American Heart Month!

Did you know: according to Dr. Michelle Albert, former president of the American Heart Association, 80% of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) risk is tied to behavior and environment? Understanding and addressing factors like income disparities, unsafe living environments, and social stressors is a crucial step in tackling the risk factors for heart disease at their source.

On MLK Day we had member serving all over the city!

Majority of our members spent the morning making t-shirt bags to fill with toiletries and socks to be distributed at shelters.

Two of our members had the exciting opportunity to serve alongside other AmeriCorps members in the city, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker, President Joe Biden, and AmeriCorps CEO, Michael D. Smith. The spent the morning at Philabundance packing food for the community.

December is HIV/AIDS Awareness Month, and December 1st was AIDS World Day! It's been over 42 years since the first recorded case of HIV. Though there's no cure, treatment has advanced. This includes PrEP, which can prevent HIV in at-risk individuals.

Interesting fact: did you know that some of our Americorps members are helping Philadelphia's uninsured and underinsured population receive this medication for free? Serving as patient advocates in city-operated health centers, our Americorps members have helped hundreds of people receive life-changing medications that they would otherwise be unable to afford.
