🎉 Employee Appreciation Day at Friends Hospital 🎉

Today we celebrated the incredible team that keeps Friends Hospital moving forward with compassion, skill, and heart.

Our leadership team spent the day serving up fresh pancakes, welcoming everyone to a smoothie truck, and dishing out a delicious lunch as a small way to say thank you. The smiles, conversations, and shared moments reminded us just how special this community truly is.

To every employee: your dedication makes a real difference, and we’re grateful for all you do. 💙

Employee Appreciation Day was this past Friday and CEO Angela Cantwell's message captured what makes our behavioral health team so exceptional.

"You meet people where they are, offer support during vulnerable moments, and help guide them toward healing. Thank you for the heart you bring to Friends Hospital and for the lives you touch through your work. Our community is stronger because of you."

🤝 Friends Hospital is grateful to the Northeast Service Hub for welcoming our team at this week’s community food distribution event. Connecting with neighbors and sharing information about our crisis services reinforced the importance of accessible support across our region.

Community well‑being and individual well‑being are deeply connected, and the Northeast Service Hub continues to play an essential role in strengthening both for the Northeast Philadelphia community.

Thanks to our Community Liaison, Obina St. John, for representing Friends.

Honoring Black History Month with a story rooted in courage and community.

Friends Hospital historian Tom Walsh — a 50‑year steward of our history — shares the little‑known role Friends played in the Underground Railroad.

His knowledge is a gift, and we’re proud to share the full interview:

In this next clip, Historian Tom Walsh takes us beneath Friends Hospital—into the tunnels that once offered protection and secrecy for people escaping slavery. These hidden passageways reveal how deeply our institution’s early caregivers committed themselves to safeguarding freedom seekers.

Friends Hospital proudly celebrated Black History Month today with a joyful day of culture, reflection, and community. Staff and patients came together to enjoy a homemade feast, explore a beautiful display of African American art and historical artifacts, and honor the extraordinary legacy of Black leaders and innovators.

As part of the celebration, we distributed copies of Hidden Figures and The Three Mothers — powerful works that highlight the strength, brilliance, and enduring impact of the Black and African American community through stories of courage, perseverance, and achievement.

It was a festive day filled with fellowship, learning, and gratitude as we honored the past, celebrated the present, and looked forward to a future grounded in equity, dignity, and hope. ❤️🖤💚

Did you know Friends Hospital was once used as a stop on the Underground Railroad?

In this clip, Tom explains how people seeking freedom stayed here overnight, and how those who offered shelter faced criminal charges for doing so.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we’re deeply proud of the role our institution played in supporting courage, dignity, and the pursuit of freedom. Our history is a reminder of the values that continue to guide our work today.

👀 Keep an eye out for the full interview - we will upload it later this week

❄️ As the snow came down, the Friends team showed up!

Our staff braved the storm to ensure our patients continued to receive the care they depend on, and their dedication didn’t go unnoticed.

These care packages were a small gesture for a big commitment. Just one way to say thank you to the people who keep our community going, no matter the weather.

We are proud to acknowledge several recent “Good Catches” by our staff. Good Catches are moments where vigilance, clinical expertise, and the courage to speak up prevented potentially dangerous situations.

These actions reflect the very best of who we are: observant, proactive, and deeply committed to the safety and well-being of those we serve and one another. Many risks are prevented quietly, behind the scenes, but their impact is profound.

Thank you to our team members for demonstrating that safety is a priority, a shared responsibility and a lived value every day.

Your dedication makes a difference!
