Help-U-Bridge, LLC Recreational Therapists had a great time learning and connecting at Temple University Recreational Therapy Evidence Based Practice Day last week (L to R: Gabby, Paige, Holly, Rachael). Fun fact 4 of our HUB RTs are TU alumni and 1 soon-to-be alumni!! (Diane, Gabby, Paige, Rachael & Hunter graduates in a couple weeks) And 2 of our RTs volunteer their time to additional RT opportunities (Gabby volunteers with Pennsylvania Center For Adapted Sports and Holly is a committee member with National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification). Rachael was also honored at the conference to receive the TU RT Alumni Award for "excellence in the field and advocating for the profession and the individuals we serve". We also wished our colleague and great supporter of HUB, Ann Dolloff from Temple well wishes on her retirement!

It's official!! Our Wheelchair Basketball collaboration with East Goshen Townshipand athlete Jimmy Falls is open for registration!

Parks and Recreation is starting an Adult Wheelchair Basketball league this year in partnership with Help-U-Bridge Recreational Therapy!

May 12 and 19: two opportunities to play for FREE! Come on out and give it a try! Our goal is to create a six week league for the fall.

Sessions led by Jimmy Falls. "Jimmy Falls is a left below-knee amputee who’s been in the game since 1983, when he first picked up wheelchair basketball at Temple University — and he’s been running the floor ever since. After losing his leg at 20, Jim became a true team leader and recruiter, bringing countless adaptive athletes into the line up across wheelchair basketball, adaptive tennis, softball, cycling, rowing, and more recently pickle ball and sitting volleyball. "

We have a lot going on this spring and summer! We still have lots of openings for our movie theater outing and music group! On April 23rd we have a Private Sensory Inclusive Movie Viewing that includes some pre-movie fun! Our Building Bridges for Life (BB4L) is a recreation based group open to any individual with a disability and is organized and facilitated by Recreational Therapists from Help-U-Bridge. BB4L is designed to enhance social connections through recreation and to expand individuals' leisure opportunities.

For Developmental Disability Awareness Month and Women's History Month we wanted to recognize
Lois Curtis (14 July 1967 – 3 November 2022).

She was an artist and lead plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court case Olmstead v. L.C. (1999) that established the right of individuals with disabilities to live in the least restrictive settings possible. She was also diagnosed with cognitive disabilities and schizophrenia.
