According to the national survey "Injustice at Every Turn," nearly half, or 41 percent of trans people have attempted su***de, which is 25-percent more than the national average. The numbers are equally staggering for the gay, le***an and bisexual populations. Aside from suicidality, there are several serious mental health issues facing Philadelphia’s LGBT community. These include high levels of domestic violence, substance abuse and socioeconomic strife. By offering increased mental health for this population, a direct effort to ameliorate these struggles is being addressed. Walnut Psychotherapy Center is a group of therapists dedicated to the effective use of long-term psychotherapy. We are wholeheartedly subscribed to understanding the complexity of the human mind and condition. We think of our histories, our attachments, and our traumas as essential facets of the puzzle that makes up how we function in today’s world.
When a client comes to us they are thought of with the utmost intricacy and care. Rather than seeking to simply rid our clients of symptoms, we help to lessen symptoms by making meaning of them and respecting their long-standing role in our clients’ efforts to function. While we might have to diagnose for insurance purposes, this is not what leads our thinking.
We are here to treat, learn, and grow together in a way that honors complex psychological functioning and the interplay among identity, development, and attachment. We will see anyone. We are committed to ultimate inclusion and treatment transparency. We don’t see ourselves as the experts, but as partners on the path towards wellness. We see the world as one that suffers with profound unwellness and consider that fact, before localizing the possibility of unwellness in individual minds.
