Today was a 73 mile bike day, training for my first Dualthon.. run 6.2 miles… bike 150 and run 18.2 ( basically run a marathon and bike 150miles… small feat). I’ve done marathons and 1/2 marathons… it’s time for a new challenge. Let’s go!

I have spent the last two weeks with over 100 colleagues at Manhattan College in NYC, attending the Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies. The Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies is a 3-year intensive Lasallian education and formation program that studies the life, work, and spirituality of Saint John Baptist de La Salle and the origins of the Lasallian educational mission. By examining the writings of De La Salle and analyzing some modern educators, we were able to develop a deeper understanding of the Lasallian heritage and its influence on contemporary education and spirituality.
I had an amazing time learning, sharing, and laughing with my classmates as we completed our second year. In our class, we represented 11 countries(Austria, Canada, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, and the USA); we are continuing to expand the work of St. John Baptist de La Salle.

I have always been a singer but this year I discovered that I can play the bongos and I am really, really good...lol. I am already looking forward to seeing my classmates next June when we will complete our last class of this 3-year commitment.

Knowing that the information and stories shared by my participants wasn’t just for me, I picked up it again a few months ago and submitted it for publication. You can gain access to my article: I Next: A Qualitative Study of Young Black Navigating Structural Violence. A Journey of Survival in Spectrum: A Journal on Black Men. I have to thank the best dissertation chair in the world Dr. Brooke Wells and my committee members Dr. James Wadley and Dr. Diane Browne for their support, motivation and perspectives. Additionally the support from my friends, my Widener University colleagues and my A-Team, LaSalle University colleagues and family as they continue to propel me forward to research and advocate for others!
