Interdisciplinary Focus-The program embraces interdisciplinarity through the inclusion of Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy and Music Therapy disciplines in the student cohort as well as the study of interdisciplinary bodies of knowledge. Artistic Inquiry- The PhD Program is unique in its inclusion of artistic inquiry as part of the curriculum.

It is award season! We are excited to announced that Dr. Minjung Shim was awarded the American Dance Therapy Association's 2024 Research Award for her article “Development and feasibility of a mindfulness-based dance/movement therapy intervention for chronic low back pain." Congratulations, Dr. Shim!

A shout-out as well to all the co-authors: Monica Gaydos, Natasha Goldstein-Levitas, Nicole Musalo, Nalini Prakash, Joke Bradt, Fengqing Zhang, Sarah Wenger, and Adam Gonzalez. Monica is a PhD candidate in our program and Dr. Prakash, a graduate from our PhD program, is the Director of our MA in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling Program.

Drexel's PhD in Creative Arts Therapies program is still accepting applications for Fall 2024 admissions. We offer a Research Fellowship, which comes with full tuition remission and a monthly stipend, to all accepted students! These Research Fellowships offer students the opportunity to gain important hands-on research experience in our faculty's research labs. The application portal will be closing soon for this year so we encourage all creative arts therapists who are interested in pursuing doctoral training to submit their applications now.

Dr. Minjung Shim and her team are conducting a new research study! Please see the announcement below:

The Mind-Body and Movement Research for Whole-person Health Lab at Drexel University is seeking participants for a study for persons with dementia and their care partners.

The study includes a 4-week online support group/training for care partners followed by an 8-week online group mindfulness-based dance/movement therapy program for both the care partners and persons with dementia.
The program is designed to enhance the connection between persons with dementia and their care partners and improve their psychological well-being.

Participants will complete surveys and interviews and receive up to $120 ($240 for a pair) for their participation.
