DEATH NOTICE FOR
ROSE LORUSSO LANZA, 98, of Philadelphia peacefully passed away in her family’s arms on May 7, 2023.
Rose was born on March 12, 1925, the youngest of four children, to two Italians who immigrated into a loving Italian community in Port Richmond. She lived on East Somerset Street nearly her entire life. She graduated Kensington High School with honors and worked as a secretary during the war until she became a mom in the 1960s.
She was the loving mother and grandmother of Joe Lanza and wife Connie (Cuthbert) and their sons Brad and Jack. Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Francesco and Lucrezia (Grillo) Lorusso; her siblings, Mary Thieroff, Michaelina Cioci, and Dominic Lorusso; her husband Anthony Lanza; and her niece Rosemary Thieroff Hughes. She is celebrated by her many nieces and nephews and their families along with many generations of cousins here in the US and in Gravina and Bari, Italy.
Family and friends were always most important to Rosie; a quick meal always came together for any visit or a swim party in her pool. She also enjoyed many other interests with her passions for sewing, gardening, caring for animals, enjoying big band and opera music, ballroom dancing, harmonizing at her piano, playing the mandolin, and cooking.
VIEWING: Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and prayer service on Tuesday May 16th at the Cassizzi Funeral Home at 2913 E. Thompson Street, Philadelphia, from 6:30 to 8:30PM. A reception will immediately follow at the Hinge Café, 2652 E Somerset St, Philadelphia. All are welcome.
INTERMENT Relatives and friends are invited to her interment on Wednesday, May 17th at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown PA. Please arrive by 9:30 .
A luncheon will immediately follow at the Washington Crossing Inn, 1295 General Washington Memorial Blvd, Washington Crossing, PA. All are welcome.
In keeping with Rose’s care for lost animals, memorial donations in lieu of flowers will be used to care for animals in Philadelphia through the PAWS organization. Make checks payable to Northeast Animal Rescue and write in memory of Rose Lanza on the check. Donations can be brought to the funeral or mailed to P.O. Box 52395, Philadelphia, PA 19115
