Jennifer Binford Johnson’s journey with the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methodology began in 1999. As a professional dancer, looking to heal her chronic neck injury, she found that the method vastly enhanced her movement qualities, articulation and range of motion, as well as nurtured her spine back to health and back to the stage. She began teaching GYROKINESIS® exercise in 2002, having studied under master teachers Leda Franklin Chantal Deeble and Miriam Barbosa. GYROTONIC® Level 1, and level 2, GYROTONIC® application for dancers courses,and the Jump Stretch Board apparatus. As is a pre-trainer for GYROKINESIS® level 1, she has successfully held teacher training workshops; which prepare new teaching artists to utilizing the method in their own practice. Jennifer maintains a private practice in Center City Philadelphia called Bodypathways, LLC, where she works with athletes, dancers, week-end warriors, and all those interested in enhancing, healing, lengthening, strengthening, and just enjoying their physical experience. Clients can choose from GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® exercise, or an individualized approach, utilizing an amalgamation of methodologies to address specific needs of the client. She also conducts workshops on injury prevention and care, optimal cross training techniques, and efficient and effective dance training for studios, schools, and colleges in the USA and Internationally. She studies with, and has completed, numerous teacher-training programs by Irene Dowd, and has recently begun co-teaching workshops by her side, (most recently at UNCSA school of dance)
Jennifer spent 15 years as an Associate Professor at the University of the Arts, School of Dance, prior to dedication herself full time to Bodypathways, LLC. She earned her MFA in modern dance from University of Utah, where she worked with renowned dance kinesiologist and author, Dr. Sally Fitt. She is a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science, the Performing Arts Medical Association, and the Royal Society of Medicine. The GYROKINESIS® body conditioning technique simultaneously stretches and strengthens the body with minimal effort, while increasing range of motion and developing coordination and mobility.
