Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a powerful, structured form of therapy that helps people:
- Manage intense emotions
- Reduce harmful behaviors
- Build healthier relationships

But what does “dialectical” mean?
It’s about holding two truths at once:
-“I’m doing the best I can.”
-“I need to try harder.”
Both can be true — and DBT helps you work with that tension instead of fighting it.
DBT focuses on teaching 4 main skill areas:
- Mindfulness – Stay present and non-judgmental in the moment.
- Distress Tolerance – Get through crisis without making it worse.
- Emotion Regulation – Understand and manage intense emotions.
- Interpersonal Effectiveness – Set boundaries, ask for what you need, and protect your relationships.
