Today is pregnancy and infant loss awareness day. This video is from 2023. I lost two babies: a little boy and a little girl. They both rocked me. I’ll never forget being in the ultrasound room alone and hearing “there’s no heartbeat.”

This is for all of you who carry your lost babies in your heart and mind everyday ❤️. I didn’t understand at time, but I think God knew that going through this would make me the best founder - it helps me understand what our patients go through on a deeper level than I imagined. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, and one of the most important things we can do is understand why miscarriages happen. Knowledge is power—especially when it comes to your body.
Here are some of the most common medical causes of pregnancy loss:

High TSH levels – Your thyroid plays a crucial role in early pregnancy. Elevated TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) can signal an underactive thyroid, which may interfere with implantation and early development.

Low progesterone – Progesterone is essential for maintaining the uterine lining. If levels are too low, it can be difficult for an embryo to implant or sustain early pregnancy. Fortunately, with testing, we can treat low progesterone levels.

Chromosomal abnormalities – This is the leading cause of first-trimester loss. Most chromosomal issues happen randomly during cell division and are not preventable.

Uterine issues – Structural problems like fibroids, septums, or an irregularly shaped uterus can impact pregnancy viability.

Infection – Certain infections can increase miscarriage risk, which is why early prenatal care and testing are so important.

Placenta issues – Problems with how the placenta forms or attaches can affect the pregnancy’s ability to continue.

Developmental complications – Sometimes there are issues with how the embryo or fetus develops that are incompatible with life.

Cervix insufficiency – A weakened cervix can open too early in pregnancy, leading to loss in the second trimester.

Blood clotting factors – Conditions like antiphospholipid syndrome or Factor V Leiden can increase the risk of clots that disrupt placental blood flow.

Understanding these causes doesn’t erase the grief, but it can help you advocate for the testing and support you deserve. You are not to blame. 💛

BINTO is the culmination of my lifelong commitment to women’s health. Working in an IVF clinic for several years, I’ve seen the fertility journey for what it can be: long, frustrating, overwhelming, expensive. I’ve also seen my patients bloom with renewed purpose. When you’re on that journey, it’s hard to know where to turn or whom you can trust.

There’s no pill you can swallow that’ll give you a guarantee. But you can get your body as healthy as possible! I can help you with that—and that’s why I started BINTO.
