THE BEACH included the shoreline along the Delaware River from Somerset Street north to Lewis Street. In this area some of the first Eastern European immigrants to settle in Port Richmond occupied clapboard “beach houses,” some of which were built on stilts to make amends for the Delaware River tidal waters (ca. 1890 – 1920)
