Inglis Employment Services (IES) provides hands-on supported employment services such as skill building, training, and partnership to assist those with disabilities obtain and maintain competitive, integrated employment.

As of this year, the employment of those with disabilities is at a historical high, thanks, in part, to the to increase in remote and flexible work options. This is incredibly encouraging as more and more people realize the value that those with disabilities bring to the work force - though there is always more to do as we work to increase these numbers even more.

This Black History Month, we want to take a moment to celebrate the intersection of those who are black and disabled.

Black disabled history is an essential part of both Black history and disability history—yet it’s often overlooked. Leaders like Harriet Tubman, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Lois Curtis made powerful contributions that deserve recognition and celebration. Acknowledging Black disabled stories helps us build a more inclusive understanding of the past and a more equitable future.
