El Centro Vanderwoude de COMHAR es el epicentro de nuestros apoyos de identificación. El Centro Vanderwoude es el centro de los programas de Apoyos a la Participación Comunitaria y Empleo con Apoyo. Este maravilloso espacio ofrece a las personas un entorno seguro donde pueden seguir creciendo.

🎉Congratulations to Joan V.! A proud member of COMHAR’s Vanderwoude Day Program, Joan has recently secured employment at ShopRite! Joan shared, “I am so independent now! I even take the bus to work by myself.”
COMHAR’s Vanderwoude Center serves as the heart of our Intellectual Disability (ID) Supports, offering a safe and empowering space for individuals to grow. It is the central hub for our Community Participation Supports and Supported Employment programs.

Through the dedication of our Direct Support Professionals, individuals are supported in developing self-care skills, increasing independence, and—when desired—building vocational skills that can lead to meaningful employment in the community.

Joan’s success is a shining example of what’s possible when opportunity meets support. Thank you to ShopRite for providing support for our members to become more independent.💼🚎🌟

COMHAR recently had an Open Door Clubhouse Luncheon and Division Director Jeff Prince opened the event with some wonderful welcoming remarks. Please watch this video for a recap of the event and remarks!

Division Director Jeff Prince’s Remarks:

COMHAR’s Open Door Clubhouse is part of the Clubhouse International network, a global community dedicated to helping people living with mental health challenges lead meaningful, productive lives. Like all Clubhouses, we follow the Clubhouse International Standards, which guide how we build belonging, purpose, and opportunity together — every single day.

Here at Open Door, our members are at the heart of everything we do. They’re not “clients” or “recipients of services” — they are colleagues, leaders, and contributors. Together with staff, they run the daily operations of the Clubhouse, support one another, and work toward employment, education, wellness, and community connection.

Today’s luncheon is a celebration — of our members’ achievements, of the collaborative spirit that defines the Clubhouse model, and of the partnerships that make this work possible. You’ll hear stories that remind us why this model works — stories of resilience, growth, and the simple but powerful act of belonging.

Before we begin, I want to thank our community supporters, COMHAR leadership, and the dedicated staff and members who make the Open Door Clubhouse such a vibrant and welcoming place. In particular, Ms. Sandie and Ms. Nichole deserve special recognition for their tireless commitment to this incredible program. Your effort continues to open doors — not only to opportunity, but to hope.

Thank you again for being here and for standing with us in this important work.

Let’s enjoy the afternoon together — and celebrate the strength and community that make Open Door such a special place.
