Doulas support ALL births. However, when you're planning for an out of hospital birth, it is important to have a doula skilled and experienced in out of hospital settings.

Doulas are NON-CLINICAL, meaning we do not assist with medical aspects of birth. However, additional training helps us stay calm and better support parents should anything unexpected pop up.

A repost from ACOG:

Today’s FDA panel on SSRIs in pregnancy lacked balance and failed to reflect the evidence. Untreated depression and anxiety can lead to serious health risks for pregnant patients. SSRIs can be lifesaving and life-changing. Patients deserve access to evidence-based, compassionate care. ACOG will continue to advocate for research and safe mental health treatment in pregnancy. What's the best bottle for a breastfed baby? It depends on your baby!

Generally, very wide bottles marketed for breastfeeding aren't always ideal. Due to shape and material, they can make it difficult for baby to get a deep latch.

If you're trying to find the right bottle for your breastfed baby, a postpartum doula or certified breastfeeding counselor can help. However, if you have any underlying lactation concerns, baby has/had any oral ties, or there's difficulty switching between breast and bottle, you'll want to see an IBCLC lactation consultant, or a speech or occupational therapist specializing in infant feeding.

We're not saying you're glued to the bed and on bed rest - we don't want postpartum clots! But we are saying spend a good bit of time resting and healing.

Those first few days after birth, your organs are adjusting and shifting. Your pelvic floor muscles still very much healing.

Take time to gradually get back to movement. You're not just recovering from birth, you're recovering from 9 months of growing an ENTIRE HUMAN! Give your body time to heal.

Struggling to get enough rest to heal and function in the postpartum period? You're not alone in this. Parenthood is not meant to be done in isolation.

Postpartum doulas aid in adjusting to life with a new addition. One major aspect of a doulas role is ensuring the family gets rest. Doulas help families find sustainable ways to get rest between her visits too.

Taking a childbirth class, staying active when safe, being mindful of nutrition, working with a doula, and knowing when it's important to see your medical provider can all increase the likelihood of a positive birth.

Sleep is a human need. But how do you get enough sleep while caring for a baby?

Support! A postpartum doula can help you get a better night's sleep during their visit. However, they also work with you and baby to find ways to ensure you get adequate rest between shifts. Helping you navigate baby's sleep routine, safe sleep space, and nap patterns set you up to get as much sleep as possible while meeting baby's needs.
