FRIEDA for generations

FRIEDA for generations At FRIEDA, we have one driving goal: to create genuine connections between people of all generations and all social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

FRIEDA offers breakfast, brunch/lunch, a dinner meal plan + private events: https://friedaforgenerations.com

FRIEDAcommunity organizes workshops and happenings centered in the arts, culture, and entertainment: https://frieda.community We invite you to our safe and inclusive space to interact with people. Join us for breakfast, brunch/lunch, or a special celebration. Our Paris-trained chef, David, and the FRIEDA multigenerational kitchen and baking team from neighborhoods across Philadelphia will craft for you a European-inspired menu, infused with care and love. And FRIEDA nourishes you beyond food. You are also welcome to learn and discover through our variety of enriching workshops and happenings centered in the arts, culture, and entertainment, all organized by FRIEDAcommunity. At FRIEDA, we dedicate as much attention to the diverse individuals that make up our community as we do to the dishes we serve. In 2019, we created a Dinner Meal Plan as a service to people who are less mobile, especially during winter. As neighbors, we look out for each other - whether with a meal or a chat or a chance to laugh and learn together. Whatever you spend at FRIEDA helps strengthen this community. You make it possible for FRIEDA to create fair-wage jobs, provide group healthcare to employees, hire or engage retirees, all while offering – at no cost – our space for curated art exhibitions, installations, and many FRIEDAcommunity activities. Come for a delicious and fun experience! All we ask is that you have an open mind and treat the space, our team, and each other with respect. Discover what FRIEDA can be for you!

A heartfelt thank you to all of you who stopped by over the weekend at our market stand to buy some beautiful paper flowers from our community art installation .
Your support means a lot to us!

We are happy, grateful and proud to share the news that we have collected $3,490. This amount will be reinvested in future FRIEDAcommunity art projects.

(A few bouquets are still on display at FRIEDA through September 25. Make your bid. The minimum bid is $50.)

FRIEDAcommunity thanks all the volunteers who were involved in the creation of this participatory art project, especially Sandra Rothman for leading the flower-making workshops and Mark Stephens for constructing the cardboard market stand.
Thank you to Donna, Annie, Sara, Carol, Mary, Martine, Doss, Ruth, Scott, Charlotte and Anthony for the many hours they contributed to make this participatory project bloom.

is sponsored by Fran Carter.

We would like to thank Brad Aronson, author of “HumanKind: Changing the World One Small Act at a Time” (2020), for joining us to talk about ways you can make a difference through simple words and kind deeds and for donating the revenue from the books sold after his talk.

“Ample scientific research show that prosocial behavior is beneficial to both the actor and the intended recipient.”

Over the last few months, we have given away 2,000 paper flowers and 5,000 envelopes with wildflower seeds to strangers, with the goal of inspiring these people to pay kindness forward.

While we hope that continues to inspire all of us, the FRIEDAcommunity participatory art project is coming to an end.

FRIEDAcommunity invites you to stop by FRIEDA Saturday, 6 September and Sunday, 7 September between 9 am - 3 pm to buy the beautiful handmade paper flowers that decorate the stall. Your purchase will help support future FRIEDAcommunity projects.

FRIEDA / FRIEDAcommunity got a visit from a PBS / WHYY / Channel 12 film team to talk about our mission:

FRIEDA / FRIEDAcommunity fosters genuine connections between people of all generations and all social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds through food, arts, culture, and shared experiences.

The segment is part of the WHYY show, “You Oughta Know,“ a guide to people, places, and events in the Philadelphia region that viewers might not know about.
It aired on Channel 12 last Friday and Saturday and can now be seen online at the link:

We hope to see you soon at 320 Walnut Street!
