Have you ever felt anxious? Are you feeling anxious now? It's an uncomfortable feeling that robs us of our present moment. Sometimes, we are hardwired from childhood to worry and fear what will happen. However, we often ignore it or self-medicate to drown the symptoms. Too many of us live our whole lives feeling anxious.

Don't worry, you're not alone. Anxiety disorder is the most common mental health disorder in America, impacting approximately 40 million adults 18 and older. This imbalance leaves us distressed, fearful, and constantly worrying.

1. Extremely distressed, constant worry, and fear about situations.

2. Repeated episodes of sudden, intense fear, known as panic attacks.

3. These feelings can interfere with daily activities, are hard to control, and may last long. They can also be disproportionate to the actual danger present.

4. With anxiety, we might avoid certain places or situations to prevent experiencing these overwhelming feelings.

Healing is the prescription. With healing, we realize and resolve the problem instead of sedating it. Dr. Alston

Do you have difficulty paying attention? Are you easily distracted? Or forgetful? Do you often leave tasks incomplete? Are your poor attention skills affecting your quality of life? You might not have an attention deficit, but a concentration one. When our concentration is impaired, our success is affected. Because our minds are all over the place, what we say we want to achieve does not happen. The reason is mental chaos or a lack of focused concentration. Focus concentration, or Dharana, is the sixth limb of yoga. It's a high concentration of the mind. Concentration is the ground for wisdom to arise. The Buddha said: "What now is Right Concentration? Having the mind fixed to a single object (one-pointedness of mind): this is concentration."

For success to occur, concentration must exist. Social media compromises our concentration abilities; it convinces us that success just happens. Yet, every success requires concentration, where what you want is always in focus. Of course, concentration is a choice. But it is also a way to discover ourselves. Learn to concentrate by practicing Trataka (candle gazing), visualization, focusing on the breath or vibration of sound, and all techniques that focus on the mind-experience Ase Yoga, where every breath counts.

Often in life, we live incompletely. Even when we speak, we don't complete our sentences; our thoughts linger incompletely. We start something but forget to complete it. Our existence cries out for completion, even a complete discovery of ourselves. And so, when we complete a book, it's cause for celebration. It's complete.

Words Matter

Words Matter

Words carry meaning. What we say to ourselves to others either inspires or uninspire us. Listen to yourself. Reflect on your choice of words. You might find out that you're holding yourself back: Words such as "That's Impossible; I Have a Problem With That, I'm worried that, I like my own Idea, I'm too old, I already know that, shouldn't, I don't have this or that, and the infamous, but, I can't" block our energy- shuts down our movement. Nothing controls us more than what we say to ourselves. For example, if we have a degree, we need another one; if we don't, we need one. None of it matters. It's all an illusion. What matters is inspiration. Inspiration is to breathe life into what you want to achieve. Conversely, to uninspire yourself is a form of self-mutilation. Get rid of words that imprison, enslave, and hold you back. To do that is to heal. Always remember that you are not the only one that has been in that situation. The difference between you and someone else is the words used. Reclaim your power from the educational system, your upbringing, or even the messages from society that hold you back-experience Àse Yoga .

Flower Moon

This is one of those extraordinary moments. On May 26, we will experience a full moon, a lunar eclipse, and a supermoon known as a "flower moon." A rarity in the world. When the moon moves into the Earth's shadow, blocking the sun's light, a lunar eclipse occurs. Today's moon energy is all about acc...

What we ignore, still affects us.

Àse Yoga is celebrating the Winter solstice this Monday, December 21, 2020. It arrives at 5:02 AM. The word solstice is derived from the Latin sol ("sun") and sistere ("to stand still"). While the earth rotates on its axis, it tilts so that the sun appears to be sitting still. Something phenomenal ...

What's you M.O.?

What's you M.O.?

All of us act with a modi operandi. It's merely a way that we do things. Crimes are solved by identifying the person's Modi operandi. If, for example, someone steals your Amazon packages at noon every Tuesday, they will, in all probability, continue doing it on this day for as long as it works. Some people become excited about starting a yoga practice, a fitness routine, eating healthy, and stopping doing it after a few months. Their M.O. is to start an activity but not commit to it. Where does this modi operandi come from? It comes from what we see and hear, as well as what we experience.
How often do children pick up an instrument only to move on to something else? Usually, we're unaware of our way of doing activities in life. So we keep doing it even though it might be unhealthy, self-destructive, regressive and even immobilizing. What's your modus operandi or way of living? Do you know? Often, we don't know because we're not personally conscious of it. That means we exist in a state of unawareness. We do it, but we're not aware that we're doing it. For example, we may get sick when we don't want to do something rather than say it. With this unawareness, we fail to deal with our underlying issues. As well, our M.O.sustains us in a cycle of sameness. Yoga teaches us not to breakdown but breakthrough our M.O. of unhealthiness. To tune inward by concentrating on an object so that we steady the mind and become aware. Before we can even meditate, we must learn to concentrate. Change your M.O. to one healing. Take a good look inside yourself. Give the gift of transformation-experience Àse Yoga .

The Grass is Not Greener on The Other Side.

The Grass is Not Greener on The Other Side.

Most of us move from one place to another, one city to another, because we're running. When you ask a person how they ended up where they are-- it's the belief that the grass is always greener on the other side. So we pump ourselves up with this fallacious notion that life will be better if we leave where we are. Thinking that way always backfires because running is a waste of time. Only years later, we realize that we're were not running for anything but from something. And that the grass is not greener in another city. Running not only comes with moves but through escapism: such distractions, drugs, relationships, social media. But if you dig a little closer, we find that we're running from ourselves. The problem is, we cannot run away from ourselves. Instead of running or escaping, get to know yourself. Yoga teaches us that we have to get closer to ourselves. And we do that by becoming awake, not escaping. Getting closer to ourselves takes courage. Sometimes, we have to remove ourselves from others. Open up our sacral energy to know ourselves. No place we go or forms of escape we use will work--we have to commit to our spiritual practice. Restore yourself-experience Àse Yoga

Re-Create

Re-Create

What do you do for recreation? Do you fish, rollerskate, hike, camp, play video games, cycle, dog walk, canoe, kayak, rock climb, run, sail, ski, skydive, or eat? Recreation is defined as an activity of leisure. We enjoy engaging in recreational activities. We even have adult recreational centers. Throughout our lives, we use recreational drugs and engage in recreational s*x. It's true. Depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, and s*x solely for pleasure rather than a commitment to a relationship are purely recreational. Have we taken the sacred and made it merely fun or a sports activity? Are these activities really recreational? Recreation' means something is created in us – it is actually recreation; it is not just fun. It's a means to re-create. What are you creating inside with these activities? Far too many of us leave this planet with a resume of fun but no re-creations. Sadly, we've traded our enlightenment for fun. If only we knew our essence, our lives would change. By staying the same, we've not fully opened ourselves up to a higher plane of recreation. Yoga is a re-creation; meditation is also re-creation. As a practice, we change our conversation about life, no longer worry or complain because we've chosen to become conscious. We become re-created into an enlightened being, no longer distracted by the external world. Experience the true meaning of re-creation; experience Àse Yoga counts.
