In celebration of , we invited colleagues to share their thoughts and stories as proud Red Crossers that make up our inclusive team in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Today, we feature a blog post by Immunohematology Reference Lab technologist and communications volunteer Samantha Munro.

Sam writes, "Being Black in America is ever-changing and stagnant at the same time, depending on where you are and who you are around. I’ve had a variety of experiences, some positive, some negative, and some funny."

She shares a story about her time volunteering on Navajo reservation in New Mexico during college. While visiting a school, a young child rubbed Sam's forehead, attempting to clean her skin. She hurried to the restroom only to find there was nothing on her face.

"I quickly realized what happened...I was probably the first Black person the little girl had ever seen," she writes.

Our volunteers will be staffing info tables throughout the show, so be sure to stop by, say "hi!" and take a photo with our ERV!

Special thanks to Red Crossers Heidi, Mary and Dave for making sure our ERV and displays were ready for prime time!

BRRRRR! We may be avoiding more snow this weekend, but temperatures will continue to be dangerously cold and well below freezing. Frostbite can set in in as little as 10-30 minutes, and hypothermia in 30-60 minutes. Take precautions when outside by wearing layers of clothing, a hat and gloves, and know the signs of frostbite and hypothermia.

Download the free Red Cross First Aid app for info on these and other emergency situations.
