From the moment Amy stepped onto the ice at age 7, figure skating became more than a sport โ€” it became part of who she is. When a painful knee condition forced her out of the rink, she turned to surgeons and sports medicine specialists at our Orthopedic Center.

After surgery and physical therapy, Amy returned to skating on her own terms. Now a pre-med student at Penn, sheโ€™s turning her experience into inspiration, with a new goal: becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

Following Team USA's incredible gold medal win, weโ€™re excited to share the inspiring journey of 12-year-old figure skater Ryan.

After breaking his clavicle, Ryan was initially told heโ€™d need 4โ€“6 months off the ice. His family came to our hospital for a second opinion where orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Apurva Shah, determined surgery was the best option, stabilizing his clavicle with a plate and seven screws.

Just three weeks after surgery, Ryan, who was the 2024 U.S. Figure Skating Excel Juvenile Plus National Champion, was able to return to the ice. Today heโ€™s thriving, stronger and more confident than ever. โ›ธ๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Adaptive sports give children with physical disabilities the chance to build independence, confidence, and joy through the sports they love.

In our latest Rehab Roundtable episode, physical therapist assistant Lori Kile shares how adaptive sled hockey โ€” a fast-paced Paralympic sport โ€” creates opportunities for inclusion and community. With her experience from forming a youth team to working with national initiatives and the U.S. Womenโ€™s Sled Hockey Team, Lori highlights the powerful impact on players and families and why getting involved can be life-changing.
