WINTER STORM SAFETY NOTICE
A significant winter storm is expected to impact the Moshannon Valley from tonight into Monday, bringing dangerously cold temperatures, high winds, and snowfall totals that could exceed 18 inches in some areas. Although something many of us are used to, these are combined conditions we have not seen since the last major storm in 2021 and they can quickly become life threatening if you are not prepared.
Please take the following safety measures seriously
• Avoid unnecessary travel. Whiteout conditions and severe snow drifting can make roads impassable in a matter of minutes.
• Prepare for power outages. Charge phones, have flashlights ready, and keep extra blankets on hand.
• Stay warm and limit exposure. Negative temperatures and high winds can cause frostbite and hypothermia in a very short time.
• Check on neighbors and family members, especially the elderly, those with medical needs, or anyone living alone.
• Keep emergency supplies available including medications, food, water, and a way to stay warm if power is lost.
• Use alternative heating safely. Never run generators, grills, or propane heaters indoors due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Emergency Response Reminder
Moshannon Valley EMS will have additional staffing and resources in place, but severe weather and drifting snow may delay response times, especially in rural or hard to access areas. Please call 911 only for true emergencies so we can remain available for those in immediate need. Our administration has been involved in multiple briefings over the last 24 hours regarding this storm, and we continue to monitor for changes.
Your safety starts with preparation. Please plan ahead, stay informed, and look out for one another during this storm.
Stay safe everyone, and enjoy this classic snow storm!
