Female ge***al mutilation is not just a childhood injury.
It is a lifelong maternal health crisis.
FGM can cause severe bleeding, infections, obstructed labor, birth trauma, stillbirth, and preventable maternal deaths.
In communities with limited skilled healthcare, these complications become even more dangerous.
But the harm is not only physical.
Many survivors carry lifelong emotional trauma and fear that affects pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood.
Protecting maternal health must begin before pregnancy starts.
Ending FGM means:
• protecting girls,
• supporting survivors,
• improving safe childbirth,
• and saving mothers and babies.
Every girl deserves a future free from harm.
