Socially Accessible Low key teaching you about disabilities

12/25/2024

This is a conversation that happened last night. The more I think about this conversation, the more I wish everyone would just talk about disabilities so that we as a society can grow but also so you, as an individual, can learn how to discuss it, which creates the inclusion and acceptance once levels of comfort are reached.

All I want for Christmas is to feel seen, understood and to be loved. This was a very comfortable conversation with a non-disabled cab driver.

Attractive feminine Lyft driver: ready?

Me: aren't you scared doing this at night?

Her: no, I have more problems in the day than at night.

Me: why?

Her: daytime rides are usually day drinkers or disabled people.

Me: why are disabled people hard?

Her: because they're perverted.

Me: hey! But also that's true. We talk about s*x a lot because we don't get it. I appreciate your honesty saying that though because everyone else likes to gaslight me in "astonishment" that it "can't possibly be true" making me feel invalidated on the last 10 years of my life. I'll tip you big just for not feeling the need to lie to me or pretend like I'm not disabled or act like it's appalling to talk about what is a very real existence.

Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States.

The holiday's name is a portmanteau of the words "June" and "nineteenth", as it was on June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War.

Although this date commemorates enslaved people learning of their freedom under the Emancipation Proclamation, this only applied to former Confederate states.
